Shingeki no Kyojin review
I quickly drawned into this story several moments after the chibi collosal titan posted by people on my facebook news feeds. Along with it, I also notice some characters in certain uniform which later I notice as scout legion uniform, in chibi styles. The unique in it quickly gain fans attention, and it's not usual that I was interested to find out more about it.

When first I read the manga, I can enjoy the art, although it's a mess, but I can gasp the expressions of each characters. More than that, the story itself is more than enough reason for me to notice another masterpiece by japanese writer. Who cares with arts if you got a great story to tell? Though I got sick already with well drawn manga but have sucks story.

I quickly become a fan and as I read furthermore, reading the mangaka's interviews, I learned how he treat the characters equally. It's a very plus point for this manga because it seems like the mangaka have great understanding of people's personalities. Another thing that is great about this, is the fight scenes. It looks great because the mangaka understand martial art.

No story is perfect, and because I really like the story, I wrote rant on tumblr about how stupid Erwin Smith leads his men to sacrifice the troops and all, how uneffective 3DMG is (because it's melee weapon, used to fight overly powerful enemy, which is a big mistake in war strategy), I still have reasons to not drop the manga. Funny thing is, all of my rants and questions on the tumblr articles are answered one by one as I made progress on reading the story.

Shingeki no Kyojin is a masterpiece, although it's art is not beautiful, but everything describe very well in it.

As a matter of habit I don't like harem anime. I feel that they are pandering piles of unoriginality almost every time. The main characters don't even have anything to make all of these girls want them, there is a ton of pointless ecchi, and in some cases the girls are actually okay with competing with each other over a boy. The only person who would like something unoriginal like that would be the worst kind of otaku. Except, I actually liked this one. I'll explain why.

First off, it steers clear of some things. There's ecchi, but the girls actually use it as a tool to get the main to fall for them. Some girls do use their "feminine charms" to try to pick up guys, so this is believable. On top of that, the manga is far more about romance than most harem manga are. The emphasis is on the romance, not the ecchi. I like that. Plus, the girls all avoid the stereotypes romance fans expect them to fit.

Thats not to say that this manga restores my faith in the harem genre. It still gets plenty wrong. The main character IS a weak willed doormat, the girls ARE okay with competing with each other over a boy they all like, and the ending DOES disappoint. At least for me.

This is the same author that wrote and created the art for Kimikiss and Amagami, and the art here is just as gorgeous thanks to Shinonome Taro's beautiful character designs.

If you like harem for the romance, this one won't disappoint. With great art, interesting female characters, and a few instances of the rules of the harem anime being broken, there is a lot to like here. Unfortunately, some of the trappings of pandering and comedic nonsense still exist, so don't go into this expecting anything mind blowing.

Time Paradox Ghost Writer review
Edit - I hate having to eat my words but hey, I took a shot. I loved something and I stood by it. I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about what people think so I won't alter my original review. My opinion of the series hasn't changed much. I still believe it could have gone a very long way. It's not my fault that the Japanese r cool will sexualized lolis but when things get real (like plagiarism topic), they cower into their caves. Anyways, I hope jump adds a sports series soon.
.
At this moment, I'm merely 7 chapters into the series. And I've already given it 9/10. This is the first time I have given such high rating when I'm only 7 chapters in. I've been following this series right from the beginning and it has been amazing; in fact, it is nearly on par with the manga the main character makes!!!

Let me explain the outline - Our main character Teppei Sasaki is a failed manga artist. He has been trying for a long time but owing to his lack of depth, he is not successful; plus he tends to steal ideas from successful works. Just as he was about to give up on his dream of being a mangaka, he gets an Issue of Shonen Jump in his microwave!
As it turns out, its an issue of Jump sent from the future! This leads to great changes in his life, as it takes a whole new direction with new hurdles to overcome.
Our Hero tries to counterfeit a series "White Knight" that appears in the future Shonen Jump and takes it for himself, creating two parallel world lines, one where the manga is originally made, while in the other, our hero is the mangaka of that series. And then, he meets Itsuki Aino, the original mangaka of 'White Knight"!

Microwave Time Machine? Why is that familiar? Oh right, its a direct inspiration from Steins; Gate, the most popular time travel anime. The series is about a mangaka's life. Now before you think this is a second coming of Bakuman, let me stop you. It's not. Its completely different without the elements being a lot different.

One thing that strikes me in particular is how well it is suited to current Weekly Shonen Jump. Right now, Shonen Jump is extremely impatient with it's series and demands a lot too early. They barely let the story bloom before they axe it. This is of course due to the readers, who judge a bit too prematurely. Lets see, I've been following Guardian of the Witch, Tokyo Shinobi Squad, Red Sprite, Zipman, etc. What do they all have in common? They were all axed before they even reached 30 chapters. Lets see what some of the popular series were doing at 30? One Piece, the face of jump, was at Syrup Village arc and back then, it was barely good. Naruto was at Land of Waves, a mediocre arc. Bleach was still busy with Ichigo defeating low tier Yokai with Soul Society far away, so it sucked. Dragon Ball just finished giving panties to Oolong and was setting up the first tournament. So you see, the Big 4 weren't doing so great either and would probably get axed.

In this time of low security, all the starting chapters must be one hell of a banger, creating enough impact for the reader to want more from it. And that is where this series is shining.
- Chapter 1 ends with our hero finally becoming a published mangaka (one-shot) while the original writer in that timeline discovers that someone has beat them to the punch. Fantastic pilot chapter from all angles.
- Chapter 2 leads him to steeling his resolve about drawing the manga for real, whilst wondering why he got it in the first place. Great character writing done here. And then he meets Itsuki Aino! Didn't see that coming, did you?
- Chapter 3 was dedicated to create an amazing chemistry between our leads - slightly weird and funny, a whole lot of tension, a bit of a romantic pull too. It ends with our hero finally starting serialization.
As you can see, every chapter leaves us wanting more. We want to see how this progresses. We don't know if there is some ultimate goal here, we just want to know the near future. Waiting a week for every chapter seems like an eternity. And even then, the chapters don't end on cheap cliffhangers. How about that?

The story has been absolutely amazing. It gets deeper and somewhat darker as it passes. It never drags, but there is no rushing either. Our hero faces issue, he solves them, he moves forward. We see him go through all the stages needed for someone who is trying to create a counterfeit. And there is always the bigger mystery - why is all of this happening and how? So with clear short and medium term goals, the story progresses smoothly. I can't even imagine how it will go on.

SPOILER OF CHAPTER 7 - Skip to next para if you don't want this.
Our Hero has been copying the original work from another timeline well enough. Suddenly, a chapter is skipped. Turns out, the original mangaka has died in the other timeline. Our hero has nothing to do, as he is not capable of maintaining the quality of the series. He then receives a note which says he must keep drawing so that the cause of Itsuki's death can be removed. He now has to deal with his manga, as well as somehow figure out the Itsuki in his own timeline.

The characters department has been great. Our Hero feels surprisingly real. He has a good moral compass and still, he is not a total drudge either. He manages to settle his internal conflict and his resolve to make a superior piece of art only gets stronger. That is quite admirable. Our deuteragonist is a colorful girl as well. She is similar to our hero but dissimilar as well. With immense talent, she keeps working in her own way, trying to surpass our hero. They have a strange Sempai-Kouhai type relationship. Every one of their interactions is beautiful.
The rest of the characters have only received borderline characterization but they are all lively. But its only been 7 chapters, they have a lot of ground to improve on.

But all this was praise for Kenji Ichima, the writer. Now we check out Tsunehiro Date's artwork. Vibrant seems like an appropriate description. The pilot chapter has mindnumbingly beautiful art - clear, sinister and completely realistic. Its digitally made, so the clarity is impressive. The paneling has been great so far, showing us all the events in a way that's easy to follow and understand. The character designs are memorable - our hero is meant to look average and completely normal; that is achieved perfectly and yet, he sticks to the back of our mind. The genius deuteragonist is excessively cute and has an aura of genius and eeriness about her. The time machine looks scary and so realistic! Not to mention the stress, desperation, happiness, etc all emotions are so vivid for us. A truly amazing art.

I ranted so much based on just 7 chapters. I'll return if this makes 30 chapters and update all this. Boy I hope this doesn't get axed. Actually you know what? It wont'. This series can't get axed prematurely.

Jigokuren: Death Life review
tl;dr: A manga with a premise that's still very much interesting despite not having advanced at all beyond the previous series, but marred by an execution that ends before really getting anywhere.

This manga is a sequel to Jigokuren: Love in Hell, which takes place in the same place as its predecessor with some characters from the previous series popping in at times but being concerned mainly with new characters. Hence all the old interesting aspects, such the strange relationship between sinners and their demon partners that torture them but also take care of them or the economy where pain and suffering is the foundation for their currency, carry over. There are some new mechanics, but they're pretty minor. Still, this set up was far from exhausted in the previous manga, so revisiting what is pretty much exactly the same thing with a new set of characters sounds like something that could work perfectly well. And as far as it got, it seemed fine. The new cast of characters were reasonably different from the old cast and seemed like they could carry a solid story. The thing is, that the manga ends far too quickly, wherein it ends before we get to the meat of the story and we come to understand the characters, their background, and motivations, like what happened during the last half of the previous series. One wouldn't think that a single volume difference could make such a difference, but it felt a lot like this series was being paced the same way as the previous and would do the same thing with the last volume but was simply was unable to. There's somewhat of a rushed attempt at some minor development at the end, but it doesn't have anywhere near as much impact as the ending of the previous series did. Hence, it just sort of feels like the series fell flat and there wasn't enough to it in the end. The setting and dark humor that accompany it are still on point though, but as with the previous series it'll vary widely from person to person depending on their tolerance of such themes and topics. Similarly, the art I thought worked well with good character designs for the demon helpers that contrast with the horrific aspects.

Rengoku no Karma review
Rengoku no Karma is not a manga for everybody. It deals with the heavy topic of suicide and depression, and acts as a warning against committing suicide.

It's a very sad story, and given the premise of infinitely looping to save people, you'll see quite a few people end up in bad ends, all thanks to the main character committing suicide.
This story is great. The High Schooler arc is almost perfect, aside from one small detail I'll save for later.

Now, you may have just noticed I called it an arc. Well, that is because there is a followup to it, covering what I presume to be the last 20 chapters called the "Group Suicide Arc". I did not read it, mostly because my manga site only had the first two chapters of the arc and what I saw was enough.
This kind of story requires only one arc. The High Schooler Arc, on its own, ignoring the small detail, would be what I consider a 10/10. It is thoroughly enjoyable in addition to having a strong conclusion that leaves you satisfied after all the tension and drama it had built up for 20 chapters. A sequel diminishes this fact and makes the story feel less unique, especially when the main character isn't as strong of the original main. The Group Suicide Arc stars a young girl who aspires to be an idol, but isn't cute enough to make it, while the High Schooler Arc features a student dealing with pressure from his parents, bullies, and is betrayed by somebody he was in love with. Which one do you relate to more?

Now, let's not fret over the issues with the second arc I didn't get past the second chapter of. Just shove it out of your mind and put this thought in. Spoilers for the ending of the High Schooler Arc.

Now, at the end, the boy revives, saves one last person and fully exposes the bully and we get an epilogue after what seems to be a rather odd thought from one of the characters, that being "I feel like somebody is staring at me." A year and a half after graduation, the MC uncovers who was watching her, that being one of the people he saved, the cameragal. She proceeds to tell him she hated the other chick and tried to get her bullied into suicide. This whole twist comes out of nowhere with zero foreshadowing outside of "I was a side-character below Bully-kuns fawners", which isn't even true in a meta context. Following that, she asks the MC if he even saved anybody (which he did, having saved SEVEN, possible more people through his actions) with all his effort and he ends up COMMITTING SUICIDE AGAIN. This ruins the main message I got from the story, and just seems like it was done because the author wanted to be edgy. This isn't subversive, this isn't a good twist, this is dull. This makes me feel like I wasted my time.

So, tl;dr, good manga, sleep on the last chapter of the High Schooler Arc and the Group Suicide arc.
