At Wataru Fujii's high school, it's all the rage to wear paired rings with the girl you love. Wataru wears one though he is single, and one day inadvertently discovers that his ring pairs up with that of tall, handsome, and smart Yuichi Kazuki, the senior classman idolized by the entire school. Though Kazuki has a reputation for being kind to all, when dealing with Wataru, he is strangely harsh. Their paired rings somehow draw them together and the two alternately clash and attract, as they must sort out their budding feelings for each other.

Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru review
Uh-oh.. I can't believe I haven't written a review for my MOST FAVE YAOI NOVEL of all time?!!
Anyway here!! Story: 10/10 Only The Ring Finger Knows is probably the most sweetest thing that I've ever read. I loved this novel for a seriously long time and even now it's still making me go "kyaaa" over it. The story is.. I guess your typical boys love, school life story. But I can't help but to think that there's a uniqueness in the story. Like how they (Kazuki & Wataru) fell for each other. It started with the ring that Wataru lost. Then after a week, it came back to him and after that he became very attached with it. Then one day, he accidentally exchanged rings with the most popular boy in school, Kazuki Yuichi. And Wataru was shocked to find that they have the same ring! Is it just a coincidence? Or is there a hidden meaning about it? Thoughts like that will run in your head when you start reading it. This novel contains 5 Volumes in total. But I've only read up to Volume 4 and some snippets in Volume 5 (because the English version of the book itself will be released on August 2012 - According to June site). And believe me.. when I haven't read the snippets in Volume 5.. I was like "OMFG I want more! SO CLIFFHANGER!" As in I totally can't sleep wondering what will happen in Volume 5 but I was glad because I found a community where that has a fan English translation on it before. Art: 10/10 The art is just.. too beautiful. Another reason why I so totally love this novel! Not only the story but the art is a masterpiece! Odagiri Hotaru-sensei really did give justice on the illustrations! Characters: 10/10 I just loved how the characters interact with each other. Especially Kazuki and Wataru. For me they are the perfect couple! Kazuki - Well in the novel, he is described as the most popular guy in school.. handsome.. etc! But I just love the way how he fell for Wataru. It's unlike his character. Haha Wataru - He is just your average, normal guy in the story but despite that, Kazuki fell for him. He is stubborn and I love him because he is not the girlish-uke type which I dislike. Asaka - Has feelings for Wataru (like a love triangle)and I really feel sorry for him but I really really love him, too.. Shohei - Kazuki's older brother. In the story he is like the obstacle between Kazuki and Wataru's relationship.. but nevertheless.. I still kinda like him! Kawamura - Wataru's bestfriend. I'm glad that he's part of the cast because his appearance is like a relief. He's so funny and Wataru is lucky to have a bestfriend like him~ Karin - Wataru's younger sister. She knows the secret relationship of Wataru & Kazuki.. and I like her, too! Enjoyment: 10/10 I just everything about this novel. Story/plot, characters, art, etc.. it's almost perfect for me! Overall: 10/10 If you're not really into reading novels.. then I suggest you to read the manga adaptation first! :D It's short.. only 1 Volume (it covers the first half of Volume 1 in the novel) and I'm sure you will want more and will make you to read the novel, too! If you like sweet-light romance with a bit of drama story.. then this one is for you! |
Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru review
Story: 10
This was a unique story about a high school boy-Wataru who loses a ring then he finds it on his desk a week later. In this manga, rings symbolize a relationship if on your ring finger and if it's not then it means you're single. Wataru finds out that he has the same ring as the school heartthrob-Kazuki and so, rumors start getting spread. Art: 10 Something I look at in a manga is it's art and I can say that Only The Ring Finger Knows has beautiful and enjoyable art. Character: 10 I liked both Wataru and Kazuki's character though in the end Kazuki's character's actions were explained more and I was surprised at how sweet Kazuki could be, not to mention cute :3 Enjoyment: 10 I really, really, enjoyed Only The Ring Finger Knows, this manga is a definite great read for all those shounen ai/yaoi fans out there. Overall: 10 As you can tell I really loved this story and overall I think anyone would even if you aren't a fan of shounen ai/yaoi you should give it a try cuz it's a light read =) with some cute fluff too^^ |
Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru review
Reading this manga turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise. I went into it not expecting much, but for a work of this kind, i.e. a short four-chapter long shounen ai manga, it is quite well thought out.
The story's flow is good and is only about 30% fluffy. Even though it is such a short series, the characters and the plot seem to be fairly sound. I truly think that a lot of people can empathise with what's going on... and, I think that's what makes this manga such a fantastic yet simple piece. I would recommend Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru to anyone who is after a quick read. |
Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru review
One of my favorite genres is shounen-ai, that's something I can’t deny. For me, and probably for a lot of others, this is the perfect manga. If you haven’t read a shounen-ai or yaoi manga but you want to read some, this is a good manga to start with. No sex scenes or what-so-ever, just a bit of cute shounen-ai. It suits the ’beginners’-taste very well so you can get used to the genre (not that I’m a beginner anymore ^__^). If you like shounen-ai, this is a must-read!
Story: Right after I had read the synopsis I wanted to go and start reading it. Now I think back, I think I actually did do that. The story is interesting and you want to know what happens after they find out their rings pair up. Also, you want to know why Yuichi is so harsh when dealing with Wataru. And then, when you’ve started reading it, it all becomes clear in just a few chapters. The story isn’t too long, so you won’t get bored. It’s a very nice and heart-touching story. Art: Before I started reading Only the Ring Finger Knows I had not read that many manga, so this style was pretty new to me, and it got to me. In a good way. I really like Odagiri Hotaru’s style of drawing. You won’t see too many chibi’s, but it isn’t too detailed either. But, it’s detailed enough to get hooked by it. Especially the eyes and hair of the main characters. I hope she will do some more manga, other mangaka have to watch out for her! Character: Actually, the only characters you’ll care about are the main characters. The story focuses itself on the relationship between Yuichi and Wataru, no need for side-characters you’ll think. Hmm… you’re almost right. But there are some persons (I’m talking about two or so) who have an ini-mini-small role in the story which is necessary. Due to those two their relationship becomes stronger I think. Ah, well, you have to read that for yourself. ;D Enjoyment: When I first started reading this manga I was very curious to how it would end. And when I finished it, I wasn’t the slightest bit annoyed. I even wanted to go and buy it, the only thing was I couldn’t. But I was determined to read it again sometime! And then, at the last Con I attended I found it in the manga section! Oh, how happy I was! Directly after I went to bed that day I started to read it for the second time, and I continued reading till 3 o’clock that night. So, I guess this manga pretty got to me! ^__^ Overall: I love this manga, and nothing can change that. I really recommend it to any single soul who likes/loves shounen-ai, and I hope people will like it as much as I do. I’ll be sure to read it for a third time someday! I was delighted by it, yes, delighted. :P So, that was my second review. I hope it’s good enough to give people an idea of how good this manga is. If you think I messed up, please contact me with your critic. Of course critic is allowed; I can fail but I also gain something with failure! |
